Canon service mode UK – enter service mode and clear error 5B00 / 1700
If your Canon printer suddenly stops and shows error codes like 5B00, 1700 or messages about an “ink absorber full / waste ink counter full”, it means the internal waste ink counter has reached its limit. To make the printer work again, you first have to put the device into Canon service mode.
On this page you will find step-by-step Canon service mode button combinations for the most popular series. After entering service mode, you can use WIC Reset Connect to reset the waste ink counter and remove the error permanently.

FAQ – Canon service mode & WIC Reset Connect (UK)
What is Canon service mode and why do I need it?
Canon service mode is a special internal maintenance mode built into the printer firmware. You need to enter service mode whenever you want to reset the waste ink counter after errors such as 5B00 or 1700. Once the printer is in service mode, you can use WIC Reset Connect and a reset key to clear the counter and make the device ready to print again.
Can WIC Reset Connect remove Canon error 5B00 / 1700 on UK printers?
Yes. As long as your Canon model is supported, entering service mode and running WIC Reset Connect with a valid reset key will reset the ink absorber / waste ink counter and remove errors like 5B00, 1700 and similar “ink absorber full” messages, regardless of whether the printer is used in the UK or any other region.
Is it safe to use Canon service mode just to reset the waste ink counter?
Using service mode only to reset the waste ink counter with WIC Reset Connect is safe. Follow the key sequence shown for your series, do not change any unknown options, perform the reset and then switch the printer off with the power button. After a short pause you can turn it back on and test printing again.
My Canon printer does not enter service mode – what should I check?
First, turn the device off and unplug the power cable for 10–15 seconds. Then make sure you are using the correct procedure for your exact series (E, G, MG, MP, TS, TR, etc.) and that you press the buttons in the right order and number of times. For some older printers you also have to follow a separate table with the number of STOP button presses for each model.
Where do I buy a Canon reset key for WIC Reset Connect in the UK?
You can purchase a reset key directly in our shop. Go to the cart page, place your order and, after payment, use the key immediately in the WIC Reset Connect software to reset the waste ink counter.
